Traveling and cooking on the go present unique challenges, especially when you’re far from the comfort of your fully stocked kitchen. The luxury of having every desired ingredient at our fingertips diminishes, and the idea of purchasing numerous items just for a single meal seems impractical.
Moreover, during our journey through Southeast Asia, we’ve observed that shopping for fresh ingredients to prepare a meal often surpasses the cost of enjoying local cuisine at eateries.
Nonetheless, for the past three months, we’ve managed to bring along a modest culinary arsenal: a small bottle of oil and a flask of salt. These essentials have proven sufficient for whipping up simple yet satisfying dishes like scrambled eggs, lightly seasoned fried chicken paired with pasta, and an assortment of vegetables.
Upon our arrival in Vietnam, we expanded our pantry with a bottle of soy sauce, a delightful addition to our minimalist collection of seasonings.
Armed with just these three condiments, along with fresh vegetables and eggs, Indra conjured up a delicious fried rice that brought smiles to our family’s dinner table tonight. This experience reaffirms that even on the road, with a few basic ingredients, one can still create meals that are both flavorful and comforting.
