Day 1 in Vietnam: An Unplanned Hospital Trip

We don’t know how babies always manage to find the most hazardous spots for their adventures. Just when we thought Simmi was playing safely nearby, she stumbled over an old, rusty wire, resulting in a deep cut and a large bump on her head. Thankfully, our first aid kit was on hand with antiseptic for immediate cleaning.

Given the size of the bump and the rusty nature of the wire, we opted for caution and decided to get a doctor’s opinion. This was all happening on our first day in Vietnam, and we hadn’t even fully settled in yet. Luckily, we had joined a local expat group for parents in Danang on WhatsApp, which proved invaluable in recommending a hospital.

We headed to the Vinmec Da Nang International Hospital’s emergency room. They had a dedicated pediatric unit, and the doctors spoke English, which was a relief. After examining Simmi, they reassured us that her recent Tetanus shot would protect her. They prescribed an antibiotic cream for the wound.

Tetanus shot comes to the rescue two times in the same week. Last week, Krishav got bitten by a dog. While not too bad, we are glad he had his tetanus shot and prevent infection from the bite.

Interestingly, even though they initially informed us about a consultation fee of around $60 USD, they didn’t charge us after the examination, as it was only 5 minutes and they did not thing there was anything depper to look into. But even if we had to pau the $60, a peaceful night sleep is worth it.

Simmi is doing fine, albeit with a memorable scar from Vietnam on her forehead. True to her nature, she’s still as curious and fearless as ever, ready for her next adventure.
