Breakfast feast at our HomeStay guesthouse in Galle Fort

We are staying in a homestay in Galle Fort – Beatrice House – where we live in one part of the house and the owners also live in the same house.

Their hospitality is nothing short of extraordinary, making us feel genuinely at home. The breakfast experience was particularly memorable. We were treated to a lavish spread featuring an array of fresh fruits including pineapple, watermelon, guava, and bananas. The meal also included eggs and toast, delicious Sri Lankan pancakes filled with coconut and honey, traditional milk rice cakes (a delightful concoction of milk cooked in coconut milk, then cut into squares), and chickpeas with grated coconut and sambol, all complemented by Sri Lankan Cinamon tea and coffee. It was, by far, the most sumptuous breakfast we’ve enjoyed in our travels. What made the meal even more special was the company of our hosts, who shared stories and cultural insights of Sri Lanka while we were having breakfast.

The house we are staying in – Beatrice house is over 400 years old and has a very rich history from the Dutch Colonial period.
