Lord Brahma Worship in Bangkok

We were fascinated to discover the tradition of Brahma worship in Bangkok. In the heart of the bustling city, we found the Erawan Shrine, a sacred place where people come to pay their respects to Lord Brahma. The shrine is beautifully adorned with colorful offerings, and visitors light incense and make prayers. It was a serene oasis amidst the urban chaos, and it reminded us of the deep spirituality that is an integral part of Bangkok’s culture.

The story behind this shrine from the web

“The Erawan Shrine, located in the heart of Bangkok, is a shrine dedicated to the Hindu deity Brahma. Its story dates back to 1956 when the construction of the Erawan Hotel began. The project faced a series of misfortunes and delays, including accidents and financial setbacks. Superstitious beliefs led some to believe that the hotel’s troubles were due to disturbing the spirit dwelling in the area.

To resolve these issues, a renowned Thai spiritual medium advised the construction of a shrine dedicated to Lord Brahma at the site. Following this advice, a beautiful open-air shrine featuring a four-headed statue of Lord Brahma was built in 1956. The shrine quickly became a place of worship for both Hindus and Buddhists, as well as a popular tourist attraction.

Over the years, the Erawan Shrine has gained fame for its reputation of bringing good luck and fulfilling wishes. Devotees and visitors offer flowers, incense, and garlands to seek blessings and express their gratitude for answered prayers. It remains an integral part of Bangkok’s spiritual and cultural landscape, attracting people from all walks of life who come to pay their respects and seek blessings from Lord Brahma.”
